Essential Twools for Tweeting in Twitter

Twitter is a status-updating or microblogging social networking website created by Jack Dorsey. It is a breakthrough in social networking because it takes communication into another level. Before, a person can only update his status (eg. what he’s doing, where he is) at a certain time. But with Twitter and its mobile integration, he can update his status almost all throughout the day and get in touch with people that matters to him the most. In order to maximize your tweeting experience, I have listed some “Twools”, I mean tools or add-ons for Tweeter that you’ll surely enjoy.

ORGANIZE

TweetDeck is one of the leading free desktop Tweeter application today allowing users to stay organized and up to date round the clock. It’s very useful for those who cannot always stay online. Among the best features of this application are: Easily update Twitter, Facebook and MySpace, Manage conversations with @replies and direct messages, Stay organized with groups, See what’s hot with local trends and Twitscoop, Easily manage multiple Twitter accounts in one window, Control spam, Record and share video clips within TweetDeck, and what I like the most is its ability to shorten URLs (great for hiding long affiliate links) using bit.ly, digg, is.gd, tinyurl, tr.im and twurl.

Powered by Adobe AIR, the newest version of Tweetdeck v0.30.1 was released on Thursday which fixes the bugs in v0.30. Marshall Kirkpatrick  have written a fair review of the latest version entitled TweetDeck: The 5 Best and 3 Worst Things About The New Version That Will Launch Today. TweetDeck is also available in mobile version for your iPhone or iPod Touch. It’s a handy apps for Twitters on the go and stay in touch with your followers.

Twitterrific by The Iconfactory is a free desktop client designed for both iPhone and Mac users. It’s like a chat version of Twitter which utilize a minimum screen real estate in an attractive interface. It has a small desktop footprint, an Applescript Support for filtering tweets, Growl Support for setting screen, Auto Notification and Auto Refreshing, and much more. If you find the ads to be distracting or otherwise objectionable, you can purchase a licensed version at $14.95 that removes all advertisements.

TweetDoc can collect and record a particular event or search term in twitter and turn it into a PDF document. Usage of which includes brand monitoring, competitor analysis, or simply as a sweet keepsake.

 

CUSTOMIZE

 Twibbon offers the easiest and most powerful opportunity to promote awareness of your cause on Twitter. Launched only last July 17, 2009, the program places a logo or small icon on top of your avatar, making an impactful online statement. Users who are passionate about an issue, organisation or initiative can quickly generate a Twibbon to attract and recruit similarly minded Twitterers. If you’re one of the many sympathizer of the late President Corazon “Cory” Aquino, you might want to place a small yellow ribbon within your twitter profile image – which actually have the most number of supporters at more than 20,847 at the time of writing this.

MONETIZE

RevTwt or formerly called TwtAd.com is an advertising platform created by a young Internet entreprenuer named James Simpson then later acquired by Wizag and replace the name as it is now. You can earn money from it by Cost Per Click (CPC) ads, Cost Per Thousand (CPT) twitter followers and Cost Per Action (CPA) ads in every email you sent, or post them in your forum post, blog comment, social network status update or wall post such as in Facebook.

Members are only allowed to post 2 CPC ads daily and the highest paying ads I’ve seen so far cost 15 cents per click (but can reach up to $0.20 per valid click). The site implements a stringent click filtering and auditing system so don’t ever think of cheating by clicking your own ads, else you’re out of the business. You can withdraw your earnings to your Paypal account within 4-11 days from request date and once your earnings exceeed $20.

But if you’re too lazy to manually publish ads, Magpie offers automatic submission of advertisements where you can earn by CPV, CPC, CPL or CPS on every magpie tweets they send for you. The idea is simple: magpie sends out an advertisement to your followers by giving them access to your profile. Depending on your preferences, you can allow them to tweet as much as every 5 personal tweets or as little as every 200 tweets. You can also select to place a disclaimer to identify your magpie tweets and has the option to allow pre-approved ads on your tweets. With my current 675 followers, Magpie estimated my earnings to reach up to $281.05 per month. Not bad for a few follower count and even without any effort at all aside from only signing up and setting your ad preferences. 

STATISTICS

TwitterCounter is a cool way of checking your statistics. It shows a graphical view of your progress and even predicts how many follower you could have in the next 30 days. TwitterCounter also uses TwitterRemote which allows you to show your face on thousands of blogs or place the widget on your website.

BUSINESS & MARKETING

TweetAdder is a software that automatically builds up your Twitter follower network and increases the result of your marketing efforts through 5 targeted searches, auto follow/unfollow, auto tweet, auto message, twitter trends and some more. It is downloadable at a minimum price of $55 for 1 profile or up to $188 for unlimited number of profiles. In return,it promise to increase Twitter and site traffic to your event, charity, service, business, band, or website, find like-minded followers in seconds, auto follow up to 1000 targeted profiles per day, get up to 500 new twitter followers per day per profile, automate twitter posts, schedule tweets, stay active without actually being active, automate scheduled direct messages, est Twitter search, including global location and multi language searches and set it and forget it function. Twitters can also monetize it through the TweetAdder Affiliate Program where it pays $10 sign-up bonus, 50% commission on 1st tier sales generated and 10% commission on the 2nd tier’s sales. A similarly competing tool was the Hummingbird pro-marketing software by Mesiab Labs which is selling at $97.    

CAREER

Twitsume is the newest hub for jobseekers to share their resume to the world. It allows you to build your online profile by sharing your resumé with your Twitter network, view other people’s résumés within your Twitter network, capture your résumé in a professional format and export email-able and printable versions and its free. 

REFERENCES

Twit5 presents a collection of cool Twitter applications submitted by the creator themselves. It feature a repository of 512 quality twitter apps profiled in the database since January 2009. The site strive to test each submitted applications in order to provide visitors with useful and working programs under one roof. It’s a good way to promote your new invention.

Twitdom again offers a large consolidation of applications developed for the Twitter ecosystem. But besides these applications, they also cover other Twitter-support sites such as Twitdom Books which showcase the best books on Twitter and about micro-blogging, Press page which contain blogs that are essential for tweeting, and the Alltop site which contains a massive information all about Twitter. 

If you encountered unfamiliar words while tweeting, you can always consult Twittonary. It provide definitions and explanations of foreign Twitter terms/words. You can find words such as “cutweet (CT)” which means a shortened retweeted tweet removing the RT usernames, “dweet” or tweet sent while intoxicated, “twammer” for a twitter spammer, “ykyat” short for you know you’re addicted too, and a lot more. The list though is very few and there’s not much control to play around since the site is very new but visitors are free to submit a word.
