Sacrifice of a Patriot: Mar Gave Way to Noynoy as Standard Bearer of the Liberal Party

September 1, 2009 by Marlowe Lacsina

mar and noynoyLiberal Party president Sen. Manuel “Mar” Roxas announced just now that he’s giving way to his party-mate Sen. Benigno “Noynoy” Aquino III,  to be the standard bearer of the party for the presidential election in 2010. “Totally I’m now announcing my support for the candidacy of Noynoy Aquino,” Roxas said in a press conference held at Gabaldon room in Club Filipino, Greenhills, San Juan City.

Noynoy Aquino and I share the outrage in the mess we are all in,” said Roxas, “I want to make a difference…I am the president of the Liberal party. It is within my power to preside over a potentially divisive process or to make the party a bridge for the forces of change,” he added.

The growing clamor for Noynoy to run for president in the coming 2010 election have led Sen. Mar to a decision in support of change as he utters “Someone needs to make a sacrifice.” He called on Noynoy to carry on the legacy left by his parents, former Senator Benigno “Ninoy” Aquino Jr. and the late President Corazon Aquino, to seek the highest position in the land.

Ito na ang pinakamabigat na desisyon sa buhay ko. Maniwala man kayo o hindi, ginagawa ko ito para sa bayan, para sa inyo” he said. “Country first before self… I choose to lead unity not division,” furthers Roxas expressing his faith to Aquino that he can unify the Filipino people and bring change to this nation. Roxas then smiled and flashed the Laban “L” sign.

All Filipinos are heads up as they watch and listen to Sen. Roxas while he makes this great sacrifice of personal ambition for the betterment of the country. His great act of patriotism have only led him for more respect and a place in the heart of each proud pinoys.

I’m touched by Mar’s speech. He made a very courageous decision. I will surely campaign for him should he run for Vice President. I am joining as friend of Mar from his website http://www.marroxas.com.
