World champion in seven weight divisions, lineal champion in five different weight classes, popular brand endorser, actor, singer and a national hero...

The Philippine's pride Manny "Pacman" Pacquiao snatched the WBO Welterweight title from Puerto Rico's Miguel Angel Cotto Vazquez in a showdown held on November 14, 2009 at MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas making him the only fighter in the world to win titles in seven different weight class/divisions - Flyweight, Junior Featherweight, Featherweight, Junior Lightweight, Lightweight, Junior Welterweight and Welterweight. Relatively new to the welterweight (147 lbs) division, Pacquiao pressed on with Firepower to defeat Cotto until the 12th round - adding another huge accomplishment in his already successful career.

However, some people tried to diminish the accomplishments of Manny Pacquiao saying he only have 5 major world titles as recognized by the four sanctioning bodies namely World Boxing Association (WBA), World Boxing Council (WBC), International Boxing Federation (WBF) and World Boxing Organization (WBO). They belittle his fight with Hatton under the Junior Welterweight division because it was just from a minor group - the International Boxing Organization (IBO) and they discredit his battle with Barrera in the Featherweight dividion as it was just from The Ring Magazine.

But Daniel Castellano wrote in his Critique of Lineal Boxing Championships, "In professional boxing, the lineal championship of a weight class is a notional world championship title. It is initially held at some moment in time by a boxer universally acclaimed as the best in the class. Another boxer can only win the lineal championship by defeating the reigning lineal champion in the ring. The lineal champion is described as 'the man who beat the man who beats the man'". Also check how Proboxing-fans.com has Compared Pacquiao’s Title Collection to the All-Time Greats such as Sugar Ray Leonard, Oscar De La Hoya, and Floyd Mayweather.

So whether its 5, 6 or 7 world titles, I hope everyone will agree that Manny Pacquiao's accomplishment is nothing short of legendary. He is indeed one of the greatest boxing fighters in the whole world and a hero to every Filipinos. This is another milestone for Pacquiao's career which all Pinoys should take pride in. He surely is the true people's champ.

Ordinary People making Extraordinary Impact

With ten days left before final judging on November 19, all Filipinos worldwide are being urged to vote online for our countryman Efren "Kuya Ef" Penaflorida Jr. in the search for "Hero of the Year" being conducted by the international news channel Cable News Network (CNN).

Driven by strong desire to help educate the marginalized youth, Efren with his pushcart classroom "Kariton Klasrum" taught basic literacy skills, values formation and even personal hygiene to street children and out-of-school youths of Cavite and Metro Manila. Through his own simple means and with a very limited resources, Kuya Ef formed the Dynamic Teen Company and together have managed to touch the lives of more than 1,500 Filipino children living in the slums of the city. "They need education to be successful in life. It's just giving them what others gave to me," he says.

Earlier, Philippine Ambassador to the United States Willy Gaa also asked Filipinos to vote for Efren. "Efren serves as a champion to the marginalized youth. He has gone a long way with his pushcart classroom and we know that he can go even further if chosen as this year’s ‘Hero of the Year,’" Gaa said on local newspapers.

To vote for Efren Penaflorida, kindly click here.

Google is celebrating Sesame Street's 40th Anniversary by featuring different characters of the famous children's show in its logo. Sesame Street, an American educational children’s television series and a pioneer of the contemporary educational television standard combining both education and entertainment, will turn 40 on November 10, 2009. It first premiered on November 10, 1969 and is now the longest running children’s program on US television.

The internet search engine giant continues to find ways to keep its page interesting as well as informative for online surfers by featuring special events and famous personalities, or in this case Sesame Street characters, in their Google doodle. Big Bird's two orange legs replaced the letter "L" in Google on wednesday. Then Cookie Monster came along with its googly eyes and ate up the two "O's". After that was Bert and Ernie smiling their way to their fans. And today was Oscar "the grouch's" time to shine. Other Sesame Street characters were spotted in different countries and Google said we can expect more throughout week-long celebration.

Today's Google doodle features another famous Sesame Street character Cookie Monster. Yesterday, we cover about Sesame Street’s Big Bird on Google Logo which is in celebration of the 40th Anniversary of Sesame Street - the longest-running children's tv program in the US. It seems that, starting yesterday, Google will feature a series of different charaters of this informative children show maybe until Sesame's birthday on November 10.

Cookie Monster was said to have predicted about Google 27 years ago when he sang under the tune of Old McDonald with the lyrics "with a Google Google here, and a Google Google there..." The clip was shot in 1982 which is 16 years before Google was launched. Just for everyone's information, Google - the largest search engine in the world, was founded on September 7th 1998 in a meager garage in Menlo Park, California. Although the clip was actually about Cookie Monster's googly eyes and has no direct implication of Google, the search engine giant still believe it's an appropriate find for the week and they are in no doubt proud to show it off.

This morning I noticed a familiar orange feet with yellow feathers in the Google logo. I wonder why. So I googled it and learned that Sesame Street is celebrating its 40th anniversary this year. And those familiar feet belongs to its famous character Big Bird - a cheerful 8-foot, 2-inch bird with a squeaky voice and lots of energy.

Sesame Street is an American educational children's television series and a pioneer of the contemporary educational television standard, combining both education and entertainment. Sesame Street is well known for its Muppets characters created by Jim Henson. It premiered on November 10, 1969, and is the longest running children's program on US television. The show is produced in the United States by the non-profit organization Sesame Workshop, formerly known as the Children's Television Workshop (CTW), founded by Joan Ganz Cooney and Ralph Rogers.

Batibot, the longest-running Philippine children's television program, was actually a local version of Sesame Street. It was originally premiered in 1984 with the same title Sesame! but eventually renamed Batibot which means "small, but stong and robust".
